I just finished reading Eastern Standard Tribe via Rapid Serial Visual Presentation. I don't think it was that much faster than I can read pages of text, but it certainly helped to hold my concentration (a difficult task after all these years of web page skimming). Maybe it's because the reader had some optimisations, but I didn't find the method inherently annoying*; instead I found that my eyes bugged out to the point where I couldn't read more than two chapters at a time. So the software still needs some work, but at least using it was interesting.
Oh, and as for the content of the book: it's light, near-future cyberpunk; felt pretty short (although maybe RSVP does that) and enjoyable without being catchy or profound.
* Except the IRC logs, but most novels don't have formatted text like that.
