How does one come up with insightful sociological correlations like in The Creative Class? I figure tools like this that give you access to lots of data and let you quickly manipulate it are a powerful first step. Steph (who has a Psyc degree) claims that without knowing the source of the data or understanding statistical analysis, the output of this thing is worse than useless. Indeed, the fact that it was created by white supremacists (or something like that) does make it somewhat suspect. But I still think it's a great brainstorming tool before you do the research.
