The news unofficially went out on Saturday, but I wanted to wait until the official report in the hopes that it was all a big mistake: Canada has lost our coveted place near the top of the UN Human Development Index. We've fallen so far, we're even behind arch-rivals (and always second-tier countries) America and Australia. I hesitate to recommend mass suicide because Doug Saunders says there are still some Canadian things the world respects and some guy from the UN wrote an article telling me to stop whining.
