If you don't like the Oscar nominations from this year (and awards last year) it seems to me that the most you can do is vote with your eyeballs: don't watch the Oscars on TV (easy for me to say since I don't have cable) and support alternative awards. Well it turns out that one of my favourite alternative news sources is running a populist award. I'm not going to pretend I've seen anywhere enough of the nominations to make an informed choice, but I figure participating warm bodies are important. And since most of the readers are hippies, you don't have to worry about accidentally giving Keanu Reeves a Best Actor award. (Actually the awards are only for whole movies, which makes some sense when you consider some of the difficulties the Academy runs into.)
